The "Honeymoon Shack"

Your hosts, Dirk & Tracy

Keno City is a magical place that lies "at the end of the road."

Dirk Rentmeister first arrived in the Keno Elsa Calumet area as a child in 1964 and lived there for 25 years. He spent his childhood going to school in Elsa, and playing in the great outdoors. Later, and like his father before him, Dirk spent many years working underground for United Keno Hill Mines Ltd. Both the mine and the town of Elsa came to a screeching halt on January 7, 1989. The town of Elsa was evacuated, and Keno City puttered along: a "town" of colourful 5 per cent characters that to this day contribute to the unique attributes of this small community. Like so many others looking for employment, Dirk left Elsa and Keno City when the mine closed. It wasn't until Dirk met his bride to be, Tracy, in 1993, that he – with Tracy by his side – returned to Keno City.

Tracy de la Barre was born and raised in Montreal. Her love for the Yukon began as a child in the 1970s when her parents brought her to Kluane country where she and her family spent many summers due to her father's work in the area. By the time Tracy was in her 20s, she was spending her summers working in the lodges along the Alaska Highway. She moved to the Yukon permanently in 1987.

Fuelled by Dirk's passion for the area and her own love of "end of the road" places, Dirk and Tracy committed to their dream, and the seeds were sown for their home on the hill, and the Silvermoon Bunkhouse.

An avid fisherman and a successful hunter, Dirk's knowledge of the area is immense. Dirk, Tracy and their three children, Aliesha, Charlotte and Tristan, have spent considerable time hiking and enjoying the backcountry and scenery around Keno City. They know and love the area, and want to share the very best it has to offer with you.

It has long been an ambition of Dirk and Tracy's to own and operate a hotel, motel or Inn. With the Silvermoon Bunkhouse they have realized this dream. Come and visit ... You too will fall in love with the beauty, vastness, and extraordinary features of this place at

the end of the road ...

Things to See, Do &
                Occupy Your Senses:

This is the land of the "Midnight Sun" – That's right, the sun barely sets during the months of May, June, July and most of August. With so much to do, it's a blessing the sun so graciously provides the light to explore and play!

Here are just a few suggestions for activities that can be enjoyed in the Keno City area:

- Enjoy the numerous trails and old mining roads on Keno City area hills and hill tops and go hiking, mountain biking and ATV riding. With many km of mountain trails and old mining roads in the immediate area site seeing will be second to none. Guided tours may be available with advance notice;

- Get introduced to the fauna and flora available in this remote, pristine wilderness area (don't forget your binoculars);
